video production by 'Past in Pictures' of Derby for the Pinxton and
South Normanton Local History Society. The Parishes of Pinxton and South Normanton have been irrevocably locked together since at least AD 1002, when Wulfric Spott left them both in his will to Burton Abbey. Both Parishes were owned by the le Wynn family in the 12th and 13th centuries. It was the le Wynn's who built a castle on the boundary between the two villages. The site is still known as 'Castlewood'. This connection has continued down the centuries. Ample evidence exists in the respective Parishes Register (some of the oldest existing) of marriages between Pinxton and South Normanton families. Hence the reason that the video covers both communities! |
THE
VIDEO..........
takes a nostalgic tour through (first) South Normanton where Dennis Deneley is your guide and then around Pinxton with Norman Taylor. The tour includes the ancestoral homes of the 'Lords of the Manor' of both Parishes, together with other scenes of historical interest and views of yesteryear. Many of the photographs and representations date back to well before the start of the last century. |
